Building Reed Puppets
December 2, 10:30 AM - 4:30 PM
at The Blue Parrot, 1925 N Halsted, Chicago IL
Taught by Grace Needlman
Cost $90. Includes materials.

Reed is a fantastically flexible material for creating giant, lightweight sculptures which can become puppets, masks, lanterns, kites, or more. This introductory class will cover basic techniques for building 3D forms with reed. You will learn to bend, fasten, and cover small-diameter reed using only your own hands, string, glue, and fabric. We will also introduce basic strategies for mounting and performing with reed objects. Create your own reed armature to take home!

Grace Needlman is an artist, educator, and museum worker. Grace is the co-creator of the Wonder Wagon, bringing experimental puppetry to Chicago parks, and an Artistic Associate at Rough House and co-curator of Nasty, Brutish, & Short at Links Hall.
