This call for artists is for the 2018-2019 year. Our season runs January through April, meeting on Sundays from 2-5pm in Logan Square.
In our collective, we pair together adult mentors with mentees aged 11-17 to make art with one another and explore themes and questions in partnership. In these relationships, our members do things like: 1.) gather apprentice experience in the arts, 2.) gain a buddy to go see an all-ages show with, or 3.) get to soak up the wisdom of someone moving through a different part of their timeline (we believe this knowledge goes both ways!). Above all, we do our best to honor our youth's interests, artistic pursuits, and goals when matching them with their mentor for the year.
Every year we make art to a theme. Soon our youth artists will be voting for one of the following themes: "MYTHOLOGIES", "THE UNSPOKEN", or "THE UNKNOWN". Writing, sculpting, film-making, improvisation, movement, dramatic performance, storytelling and illustration are all mediums that we plan to explore. We end the season with a showcase in which we show friends, family, and the public all the amazing projects we've been working on.
As mentioned above, every youth artist is matched with an adult mentor who they not only make art alongside, but also are free to hang out or text with, or explore the world of art in Chicago outside of our workshop space.
WHERE We meet in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago, at Grace Church - 3325 W Wrightwood Ave, Chicago, IL 60647. It's a short walk from the Logan Square Blue Line station and accessible by Kimball, Fullerton, Diversey, and Milwaukee buses.
